I don't know about India but in Pakistan carrying cash is a huge risk. I have heard several stories of people (including relatives of some of my friends) who got robbed upon arriving at Karachi and they were carrying lots of cash / jewelry.

However My I-485 has been pending since June 2005. If it was a medical question RFE they should have found out when it was applied: "initial evidence" (or within six months) or does this happen only when the case is picked up for processing ?
Also this brings up a good point as to what possible reasons can there be for which a RFE can be raised at this point in time (RFE for "additional evidence") ?
1) EVL with current job desc, compensation and full-time employment
2) Last few/All years Tax Returns/W-2. Recent Paystubs.
3) Evidence of legal status throughout the stay in US

looking at experiences on websites, medicals can come up right at the end too. The other common RFE is for birth certificate (asking for either translation or affidavits etc). Hang on a few days (keep pinging your attorney every day or every other day) to see what its about. It can sometimes take a week or two for you to receive the RFE from teh time the online status changes...

But on a serious note, I think It could be this. My wife is currently on an h4 visa and has applied for her I-485, I-765 and I-131 with me.
She had an EAD when she was on L2, when I was on L1 before switching to H1.
When we applied for her I-765, lawyer suggested we select Renewal of EAD option for my wife bcoz she already has an EAD and there is no need for a new EAD now.
May be that is why they may be waiving the fee ?? I don't know....my guess

I am guessing you had a 3 years extension after your 6 years and in your 7th year you transferred over just as a normal H1b would have done. Correct? So in this case, what is the significance of I-140 since your new emplyer will have to apply for PERM and LC again in any case?

Since we had filed 140 recently. we got e-approval with notice saying actual notice will follow in mail.
Has anyone ever filed with e-approval email printout as initial evidence ?

All that you need is 140 recepit notice to file for 485 if you do not have the approval notice. e-notice should be fine.Please talk to your attorney.

As far as I know, H4's are allowed to do 'voluntary non-paying work' in the US and are not allowed to compete for jobs in the US. In my opinion, if you are working for an indian company and getting paid in Indian currency without hurting the US job market, it should be OK. An excellent point was made earlier about home maintenance activities and baby care activities that are also part of broader terminology of 'work' and 'job'.

$1000 is a lot for Premium Processing and VSC is profiting a lot from this. They are running a business for sure....
Its only extensions which are a long time.
USCIS is self-funded from application fees. They don't get any other funding as far as I know. So, sure they are running a business.
I know its not cheap, but atleast there is a way. I have been in this long enough to know times when it took a long time without an option of premium processing.
You can always make your employer pay for the fees.

With the revision of the bulletin being revoked, things kind of worked out ok. However why has'nt anyone looked into what exactly happened on July 2nd and who was responsible for what? All the questions that Zoe Lofgren asked were very legitimate. Why were they not answered? We had Condi Rice say that all visa's were exhausted; this was on TV. Was she lying or mis-informed by someone in her department? Who misinformed her? What was the motivation for revising the bulletin? Who ordered the mass-processing of pending applicatons that we have now seen? Why were all dates made current in the first place? Which agency did it and who did they not talk to?
If it were not for the flower-campaign induced media exposure, and the tough stance taken by Zoe Lofgren, USCIS/DOS could have gotten away doing whatever they wanted. What if the next time something like this happens Zoe is not working on the immigration subcommittee in the House? No one else stood up against this mangling of the law. If you steal a car and two weeks later go put it back where you took it from, it does not change the fact that you stole the car and must be held responsible for it. Where is the responsibility for what happened on July 2nd?
Anyone contacted the Ombudsman to see if he is doing a special report on this July 2nd fiasco?

The irony in the current schizophrenic EB immigration policy is that, it is ironically the more talented, qualified and marketable and entrepreneural talent that is more likely to look at US immigration policy and call it a day. It is conversely the mediocre talent that would be inclined to "stick it out" and deal with all the crap.

I would like to know if this is possible while being on H1. I know i can apply for a part time program.. but I would like to pursue a full time MBA or would I have to convert to a F1 ?..

I don't know how you can generalize like that. Sure that I was also burnt by a Desi company. But that is no excuse to say that All Desi company's are like that. I am sure this topic is very well discussed in some other thread. I am posting this as I am surprised not to see somebody jumping in against such generalizations.
So make it a promise to yourself that if you ever start a company you will not screw up anybody (desi or otherwise)

I got deported from Chicago when I was travelling back from India because I worked at a gas station with out authorization . I had to admit that I worked and I was deported back by flight same evening . They gave me the ticket .
My visa is cancelled and I was told to go back to consulate and get a new visa .
I want to come back and complete my studies as I have only 1 semester left . Please help what what should I do now .

I actually did the stop payment back on the 14th and I have checked my account everyday and nothing...... Do you think they will reject it? I hate to lose the receipt date of July 2nd....
