This is my original question. My I-140 has already been filed - not approved yet - but we have not filed for porting the old PD. Can we not do it at the 485 stage?

Very well written letter. However If you agree here is something I feel should be updated.
old:

Do we need original I-485 receipt to file EAD/AP? Also do we need original receipt while going outside of US. I have scanned copies of my receipt notices. If absolutely required then I'll ask my attorney to send me the original receipts.

My Friend your thoughts are very good.
The AC21 Letter that one sends after changing a job is not a gaurantee that it is attached to your file(I-485). how do you expect to explain all that you are saying to CIS when they can't do there own work properly.
I agree this is not easy, but in past IV CORE was successful when they convinced CIS to come out with revised visa bulletin in July 2007. Other successes include 2 year EAD and 29 months OPT etc. If we all support, this may also be possible. Atleast having an official procedure and forms for AC21 will be really good.

Why should a drivers license be used as an ID ?
Even if it is an ID, it should NOT be linked to immigration status.
An ID says this photo and details are of the person holding the ID. It is meant to "identify" a person NOT for checking the immigration status.
If someone needs to check the immigration status, they should ask for immigration documents rather than a general purpose id.

Hi,
I'm a bachelor and applied for 485 in July '07. I got my EAD, AP, FP etc. I'm using my H1B visa to work (not my EAD).
I'm currently working for Company X that filed by 485. If I do an H1B transfer and work full time for my client, Company Y, then after getting married and my priority date becoming current, who has to file my spouse's 485 - Company X, Company Y or can I go to any independent lawyer that is not working for Company X or Y?
Is the 485 application linked to the company that filed my labor and 140?
Please let me know.

I am confused and I need to travel by the end of this month.I need to drive 10 hrs 1-way to go to the consulate personally.

I have receiived the exact same RFE and the interesting thing is that my company is neither a staffing or a consulting company. Its a services and product based company.
The RFE states that if the petitioner is engaged in consulting or staffing, then send the supporting documents. But my company is not, so what are we suppoesed to send? Will write back on monday what the lawyer says.
